Alana and Blayne … and Nixon James!

This beautiful baby boy was born on May 22, and we had his newborn photo session when he was four days old – the perfect time to capture images of newborns when they are still tiny, sleepy and squishy.

Alana and Blayne were pretty much the calmest, most laid-back new parents I’ve ever seen. Nixon had slept like a champ the night before, and his mom and dad were beaming. They were also on board with lots of naked baby pictures – and were unfazed by the poop and pee accidents that inevitably followed. Troupers!

This was a lifestyle newborn photo session – my favorite – which focuses on capturing the interactions, connections, and natural moments that happen rather than styling a perfectly posed photo shoot. But I did bring my studio lights for a photo that Alana and Blayne requested: A shot of Blayne holding Nixon in his arms and featuring Blayne’s tattoos honoring his grandparents.

Congratulations, Alana and Blayne! I’m so, so happy for you both, and I’m honored that you chose me to photograph these special moments in your lives.
