I just returned from a short trip to visit family in Arkansas, where I had a chance to turn the camera on my own children – something I don’t do often enough these days! Of course, like everyone else, I take plenty of on-the-fly snapshots on my iPhone, but it’s not the same as having thoughtful portraits that would look beautiful on our walls – photographs that have staying power and bring back memories of our lazy afternoon near the lake.
My camera didn’t come out often during this short, whirlwind trip, but the afternoon light and scenery on this day were so mesmerizing (my sister is an accomplished gardener, and their lakeside home, with old stonework and shady alcoves, offers so many beautiful spots for photographs) that I’m glad I took the time.
Also featured here are golden labs Sadye and Abbie, who love nothing more than chasing tennis balls into the water and licking kids’ faces. Sawyer was playing with the dogs, collecting shells and feathers, borrowing his Uncle Mark’s hat. Parker was lying in a raft by the shore, engrossed in a comic book.
These photos just say summer to me …
