Bride Gift Idea: Ring Dishes From Handmade Studio TN in Nashville

March 10, 2016

I’ve been on a quest to find something meaningful, lovely, unique, and locally made to include in the gift boxes I send to my brides – and these elegant handmade ring dishes are just perfect.

I’m in love with the beautiful creations from Handmade Studio TN in Nashville, and I’m excited to be sharing my obsession for handcrafted, functional art with my amazing wedding couples this year!

This elegant ceramic art is made by local entrepreneur Morgan Williamson. I found her gorgeous work on Instagram one day, and it just spoke to me and my love for all things artistically handcrafted.

I made an appointment to visit Morgan’s studio in historic Germantown to look at her work, and I asked to hear her story. (As a former magazine editor and writer, I’m always fascinated by people’s stories!)

The Beginnings of Handmade Studio TN

After graduating with an art degree, Morgan worked as a camp director before teaching ceramics classes on the side. Her first class – which included Morgan’s aunt and some neighborhood ladies – sealed her love of ceramics and made her decide to take a giant leap of faith and pursue this art full-time.

Morgan left her steady job to start a pottery studio out of her spare bedroom. The business grew quickly, and she soon moved to a Fort Houston location without a sink, heat or air conditioning, where she had to move buckets of water around on skate boards. But that space taught her to be efficient, and she learned to love working in a communal space with other artists.

Just over a year ago, Morgan moved her business into the spacious 100 Taylor studio in historic Germantown, and she now has a showroom along with space for ceramics workshops. This airy studio houses five other women-owned businesses, which makes it a great place to work and support each other’s efforts (see their links below!).

“There’s always something going on it here,” Morgan says. ” It’s such an inspiring workspace.”

As her company has grown, Morgan has hired several team members to help with production, marketing, and other facets of the business.

“I love being able to have a team of amazing women alongside me to grow the company,” she says. “It’s a satisfying job to make beautiful things and put them out into the world.”

Morgan and her husband are expecting their first child this month – a little boy! – and she’s looking forward to this new adventure.
